5 Things You Need To Start A Blog

Blogging has been a great part of my life and I've only been doing it for a few months! It's a great outlet to share my passion for fashion and highlighting other people's talents. You can read my FAQ page to learn a little more why I blog. I did a lot of research before diving into the world of blogging. Online articles, YouTube videos, and just asking questions helped a lot.

Listing off things like having a good support system and have a passion to write about is a given. You don't need me to tell you that. Here are some things to do or get that would be helpful when you start blogging.

  • Get A Domain

Starting your blog will MAKE you WANT to post and share your work. When you put money and time into something, there is more value to it. I bought my domain through Google and website through Squarespace. It took me a little while to sync my domain to my website, but the Squarespace Help Center guides you what to do.

A few other platforms to look into are:

  • Use A Nice Camera

People love pretty pictures. We live in a world where everything needs to be visual for us to be engaged and interested. I shoot my videos and some of my pictures with Lumix G7. It's nice when you can collaborate with photographers. I'm blessed to know a few people. I work with a photographer, who is also my really good friend. You can check her work and find out for yourself!

  • Carry A Laptop

Having a laptop allows me to create an office wherever I am. Any place with wifi is the best. I can work at the cute coffee shop down the street, at the airport, or at a friend's house. Along with a laptop, an external hard drive is essential. It is really smart to back up your files. I'm working with an old laptop and need to upgrade soon before it crashes on me. From research, Mac is the creme de la creme. It's the norm of the blogging world.

  • Create A Newsletter

Email will never go out of style. Although people check social media first, email will always be around. Myspace was once the big thing and now its Facebook and Instagram. When those aren't popular anymore, what will you fall back on? I use Mailchimp for my newsletter email service. It's free up to 2,000 subscribers! Free is great, right? Mailchimp has many templates to help you structure your emails. I send a newsletter out once a week which includes a couple blog posts and highlights what product I'm featuring.

  • Keep A Notebook

I have so many dope ideas that pop up in my head randomly and it's easy for me to remember those ideas when I have my notebook around. I could be in class or having dinner, and I will always have my notebook around for me. Having a pretty notebook makes it easy to carry around. You want to take care of it and show it off. In my notebook, there are certain sections that help keep me organized.

  • Possible Logo Designs
  • Blog Ideas
  • Potential Collaborations
  • Hopes & Dreams

Those are only a few things to keep in mind when starting a blog. The most important thing I would recommend for someone who is pondering the thought of creating a blog is that you have to be dedicated and put the time into it. If you love sharing your passion, blogging might be for you. Do some more research and ask questions! I'm open to helping anyone who wants to start blogging. I don't have all the answers, but I am here to support someone trying something new. Drop a message below or email me! Make sure to follow my fashion design journey on my social media.
